And if I remember correctly, I turned around and went "Reaching the phone cause I can't fight anymore." It was like, "Okay, here we go." It still only took a few hours. And instead, Charles was like, “Hey, can we write another song?”Īnd so Charles grabs the guitar, and he had the opening line for what became "Need You Now." "Picture-perfect memory, scattered all around the floor." There wasn't anything else. And I thought it would be hugs and high fives and they walk out the door. We’ve literally not spent more than an hour and a half together. And they loved it exactly the way it was…We finished this uptempo, fun, feels fairly radio obvious kind of song. The other two came in and I played it for them from the beginning. And he's like, “Are we writing that?” And I was like, “We can, absolutely." I’ve never seen the guy before, didn't know him. And the next thing I know, Charles comes bursting into my office. And I didn't even hear him open the door, probably because I had the on the music too loud. They showed up about 20 minutes before the writing was supposed to happen, which is rare.I was sitting up in my studio, working on that idea. And I had a verse and a chorus of a song. So after Carla told me that, I spent some time on my own, trying to start exactly what I thought they needed. I had been told through Carla Wallace, my publisher, that they were looking for (an) uptempo, fun first single off their next record.they were getting ready to really start that next album cycle. So for whatever reason they showed up in my office that day. They were just writing as much as they could. They were writing all over the walls, all over the floor, all over themselves. They should have been washing their clothes, and spending time with the people they needed to see. Charles (Kelley) never should have been in my studio, because it was his wife's birthday. She probably should have just gone home and gone to bed. They were out obviously promoting the first album and 'Run To You' was coming out which became their first number one, but it hadn't peaked yet. They were only going to be in town for 48 hours. I didn't even know it was coming, but it had been set based on their tour dates. It was four months that that writing appointment had been in the books. Josh Kear: That was the first time we ever met.īH: What? Because I feel there's some chemistry in that song. Watch Video: Story Behind the Song: Lady A's 'Need You Now'īart Herbison: Was that the first time you'd ever written together? Take us back to that room.

Note that some Companions may not like your drastic alignment shift, and decide to leave the party in that case. You can still use the powers you already have, but may fail the mythic quests that provide further mythic progress. After you picked one path, there will be a quest to ask you to realign yourself if you don't meet the requirement. Mythic Paths have soft alignment restrictions.(Unless you pick the Trickster ability that allows your Companions to share some of your power.) Companions only get general mythic abilities and feats. Only the main character can choose a Mythic Path.Mythic levels only upgrade in certain main Quests, and are tied to story progression instead of general Experience points. You can still reach level 20 of your ordinary class while having mythic levels. The mythic levels do not mix with your ordinary character levels.Note that when picking different Mythic Paths options in dialogues or storyboards, you are NOT locking yourself into a certain Mythic Path. This will only happen at Mythic Rank level 3, when you have to actively choose between the ones you have at your disposal. So pick that option whenever available in a dialogue or interaction, if you want to have that Mythic Path at your disposal when you reach Mythic Rank level 3. Which it actually means is "unlocks" more than "requires". Although it may be confusing at first, when you are having a conversation or interacting with something in-game and an option that says "Requires xxx Mythic Path" appears. Each path represents a journey into legend, and each tier in that path grants abilities and features related to that pursuit. There are 10 mythic paths in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. As it often happens, bibdesk is a tool and paper is a “solution”ģ)Sadly enough, bibtex export in papers is crap: it exports lots of non required fields+is not nice to complicated surnames (i.e. Basically the main problem is that for every action (adding/reading/annotating etc) one needs several steps (or apple-script). It’s supposed to manage references and that’s what it does. I’m papers user, so here are my comments:ġ)I like bibdesk very much: It’s free, fast and does more or less the same as papers.Ģ)While 1st is true, bibdesk is not nearly as good as papers for managing papers. (Updated Nov 2, 2009: Thanks to Marshall for pointing out this functionality that I had overlooked.)Īlso consider Mendeley, which is both a desktop and online article organizer.Īlright, there’s by BibDesk biased view, let’s hear from the Paper’s lovers in the comments. BibDesk is great for browsing notes or annotations, but not for reading the original papers. Papers even has an iPhone app ($10) which enables you to sync a Smart Collection so that the PDFs are at your fingertips when you have some dead time for reading. Reading Papers: Papers Papers is great for using as a browser to read PDFs. Papers costs $42 for non-students, $26 for students. Cost: Bibdesk Bibdesk is free and open source. The most recent update to BibDesk (1.3.22) helped a little, but it’s still not as clean as Papers even though they both use the same 3-column layout. Slick UI: Papers You gotta admit, Papers sure is pretty while BibDesk leaves something to be desired. And then I just add a sequential number to the cite key for the autonaming and autofiling of the associated PDFs. I’m partial to first author + two digit year (Custom format string:%a1%y). BibDesk autogenerates cite keys based on a user-defined format. To be honest, I’m not quite sure how Papers assigns cite keys to new articles. Again, a full discussion of BibTeX is left for another day, but suffice it to say, being able to assign memorable cite keys to articles is important. Cite Keys: BibDesk BibTex + AstroNat is what you should be using to include references in LaTeX articles prepared with AASTeX. Getting this functionality built into BibDesk would rock. Looks like this ADS to BibDesk app is on the right track, but it only works with Safari, not Firefox. BibDesk does have a Papers-like single-click import for articles on, but not for ADS. The way I do it is browse to the article’s ADS entry, scroll down, clink on “Bibtex entry for this abstract”, highlight the bibtex, switch to BibDesk, use alt-command-L to add a new publication from the clipboard. Search and Import: Papers Papers auto-magically imports articles and metadata and downloads the PDF while importing an article into BibDesk is (usually) a multistep process. Preview is a can of worms that I choose to leave for another day.) Improved annotation functionality and integration with Skim is likely for future versions of Papers. PDF Annotations: Bibdesk + Skim Annotations added in the PDF reader app Skim show up as Notes in BibDesk so you don’t even have to open the PDF to see the text you’ve highlighted or underlined. This ability to easily tag articles with multiple keywords and then search based on them is a huge advantage of BibDesk over Papers but I think Papers will catch up soon. With BibDesk I can highlight multiple articles and quickly specify if I only want articles with ALL of those keywords, or papers with ANY of the selected keywords. Keywords/Tags: Bibdesk Keywords play a starring role in BibDesk, occupying the left column in the main page while in Papers they are hidden in Notes. Below, I’ve listed the main functionalities, in rough order of importance to me, and which application I think handles them best. Papers gurus, I’m counting on you to speak up in the comments if I’ve missed something. BibDesk does most of those things while, as far as I can tell, Papers really only excels at searching and importing. I want my app to be as one-stop shopping as possible: I want to be able to search, import, organize, assign BibTeX cite keys, and annotate all in one place. There are different things to look for in an article management tool. This topic has been discussed elsewhere and is sure to be visited many times in the future on AstroBetter, so consider this post just one part of a much bigger discussion. Since I don’t actually use Papers, this post is more of a listing of my reasons for sticking with BibDesk for the time being. Folks have been clamoring for a Papers vs. Additional features include: zero flash increase, compact lightweight design, a rugged skeletonized crown, cleaning friendly design, heat-treated stainless steel construction, a tough Ionbond® CrCN finish for superior durability and, as always, 100% Made in the USA. 39.95 Free shipping 5/8x24 30Cal Nitride finish mini muzzle brake + crush washer. Beyond that, you will mostly likely be better off using a logging framework.Ī major advantage of using a logging framework is that it helps to standardize the log data. The seeds were re-grown and returned to the Svalbard vault last year.ĭale said such efforts show “that the seed vault is a worldwide insurance for food supply for future generations.” Those sites were set up to protect materials from an important seed bank in Aleppo, Syria, which was damaged by violence from the country’s civil war. In 2015, researchers took out seeds from the vault to help build seed collections in Lebanon and Morocco. The Svalbard vault acts as a backup to many of the world’s seed banks. “It is a great and important task to safeguard all the genetic material that is crucial to global food security,” he said. He said they will help the vault continue to be a secure storage area. Jon Georg Dale is Norway’s minister of agriculture and food. In this photo taken Sunday, Oct.18, 2015, rows of boxes containing seed samples sit inside the Global Seed Vault in Svalbard, Norway. They also include construction of a service building for emergency power and cooling units and electrical equipment that might send heat through the tunnel. Norway’s Agriculture Ministry said improvements to the vault will include a new entry tunnel. However, the event raised concerns about the need to better protect the samples. Officials said the seeds were never in danger. This caused water to flow into the entrance of the vault tunnel. It makes for excellent underground cold storage.īut in late 2016, the permafrost began to unexpectedly melt. Svalbard was chosen as the site of the seed bank, in part, because of the area’s permafrost – a thick layer of soil that stays frozen throughout the year. The samples are buried deep below a mountain. The vault is located on an island about 1,000 kilometers from the North Pole. It was created to act as a back-up in case of catastrophes such as. It has the ability to hold about 2.5 billion seeds in total. Often referred to as the doomsday vault, the Svalbard Global Seed Vault stores copies of the world’s crop seeds. The vault received its one-millionth seed sample on February 26, its 10 th anniversary. It holds seed varieties of crops from around the world, including corn, rice and grains. The vault serves as a natural deep freeze, and is meant to protect important genetic material in case of a major man-made or natural disaster. The Norwegian government built the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in 2008 to store seed samples of the world’s crops and plants. The world used to cultivate over 6,000 different plants but UN experts say we now get about 40% of our calories from three main crops, maize, wheat and rice, making food supplies vulnerable if climate change causes harvests to fail.Norway has announced it will spend 100 million Norwegian crowns, or $13 million, to make improvements to a special seed vault in the Arctic. South Korea and Mexico were also among the nations making deposits on Wednesday. “The participation of countries in the Seed Vault’s mission is vital to underwriting the life insurance that genetic diversity represents,” said Stefan Schmitz, executive director of the Crop Trust which manages the facility alongside Norway. The new vault, officially known as the Arctic World Archive, is filled with books, documents and other forms of data stored on photosensitive film. Iraq’s first deposit will consist of 418 seed samples of wild and cultivated species, including wheat and rice, while Uruguay’s initial delivery comes in the form of 1,892 seeds of wheat and barley. More than 45,000 seed samples from 13 gene banks from Asia, Australia, Europe and Latin America will be added on Wednesday, lifting the total number of deposits to more than 1.2 million for the first time, the Norwegian ministry said in a statement. Launched in 2008, the vault acts as a last resort for national and regional gene banks and played an essential role between 20 in rebuilding seed collections damaged during the war in Syria. The Svalbard Global Seed Vault, set in permafrost caves on Spitsbergen island halfway between mainland Europe and the North Pole, is only opened three times a year to limit its seeds’ exposure to the outside world. A vault built on an Arctic island to preserve the world’s crop seeds from war, disease and other catastrophes will receive new deposits on Wednesday, including for the first time from Iraq and Uruguay, Norway’s ministry of agriculture and food said. |
